CEFR Companion_EN
The CEFR Companion Volume is an important supplement to the original Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (CEFR).

It was developed by the Council of Europe to update and extend the CEFR, reflecting academic and societal developments that have taken place since the original 2001 publication.

Key Features of the Companion Volume
New Descriptors: It includes an extensive set of new and updated "can do" descriptors, particularly addressing areas that were less prominent or missing in the original CEFR.

Focus on Mediation: It significantly elaborates on Mediation as a key mode of communication. Mediation involves the user/learner acting as a social agent to create bridges and help convey or construct meaning, sometimes within the same language, sometimes between different languages, or across different modalities (e.g., spoken to signed).

MEDIATION: What it is, how to teach it and how to assess it.
According to the CEFR, mediation entails serving as a social actor to close communication gaps by communicating the same information in many languages or settings. This ability is crucial for overcoming obstacles brought on by linguistic, dialectal, or cultural differences. Mediation is essential for real-world interactions, especially in academic contexts, because it incorporates emotional, cognitive, social, and cultural intelligence. In order to improve students' practical language use in a variety of contexts, the CEFR highlights the significance of teaching mediation skills through group projects.
